There is a an Orange truck with stickers on it trying to look like an
"OFFICIAL DOT" selling asphalt. He is NOT "OFFICIAL" and is ripping people off. Driving around door to door (looks very shady too) Telling them it is
left over from a state job and will only charge $2-$3 a square foot. Any other real paving company charges by the square yard $10-$12. There are 9 square feet in a square yard.
Milton Police have been notified.

Found 2 Dogs, Please Help get them Home!
This a.m. there were 2 dogs roaming ReddStone; they were on Brickwood Lane. I picked them up, but unfortunately neither one has collars. They both smell like horses, so my guess is that they came from one of our local horse farms. Please check out the pictures and their descriptions to see if you recognize them. If not, please forward this email on to anyone you know that lives near us… Brittle/Cowart/Summit Roads, Phillips Circle, Wood Road, Freemanville, etc.

If you do not know the "new" neighbor, then don't give them any money. We've heard of other scams such as this with magazine subscription scams in our area. If you know the child/teen asking for your support, it's probably fine, but if you don't then be very cautious about handing over money and signing forms. And, above all, be cautious about letting someone enter your home in light of the most recent crime activity in our area.
As always, first call 9-1-1 if you suspect anything wrong, and the Milton Police will be dispatched.

Dear Neighbors,
I wanted to make you all aware of an incident we had at our home yesterday (Saturday 5/25/09). It was about 5:30pm, I was in the basement with the kids and my husband was upstairs in the kitchen. I heard the doorbell ring, but when my husband didn’t call for me I figured he handled whatever it was. About 10 minutes later I went upstairs and saw my husband sitting at the kitchen table with a young man (white male in polo shirt and jeans, about 19 – 22 years old). My husband was writing him a check. I walked over and asked what was going on. My husband said “this is Steve Burton, they just moved into the neighborhood recently and he is a student at UGA raising money for the school band”. I was very confused because I am pretty up on who lives in our neighborhood (with only 74 homes it’s not that difficult) and as far as I knew there was no “Burton” in the neighborhood. I looked at him and asked where exactly he lived in the neighborhood. He said 410 The Hermitage Drive – 2nd home on the left. I went and pulled out the neighborhood directory and I know who lives in that house and it has not changed ownership in the past 5 years. I then continued through the directory and told him there was noBurton in the neighborhood and that he does not live at 410 The Hermitage Drive. He was very confident and explained that they had only moved here 6 months ago and since he lives away at school he may have the address wrong. He said since they are so new to the neighborhood, they aren’t in the directory yet. I confronted him further by saying the directory is brand new and just came out last week. He said it must be a mistake and he will have his mother look into it. I asked him for his home phone number because I wanted to call his mother and he said he didn’t remember the number and his mother’s cell phone was off right now so that wouldn’t help. He also went on to say that his mother was good friends with Diane Godby (my neighbor) and that she could vouch for him. I called Diane but unfortunately there was no answer at her house. This went on and on. He sat at our kitchen table and told lie after lie and was as confident as he could be. He said he would get his mom and be back in about an hour and get the check from us at that time. He had an answer for everything I confronted him about. I told him point blank “your story isn’t adding up” and he wasn’t flustered one bit. We asked him to leave our house and he had the nerve to ask what other homes he should visit. We said “NONE – everyone here is very suspicious of solicitors and until you can get your mom to confirm that you live here, we wouldn’t recommend he go to any other homes.” He said “ok, I understand and can I have a bottle of water.”
After he left I got in touch with my neighbor (the one his mother is supposed to be great friends with) and she said she has no idea who he is. She said he came to her house and said he was with Milton H.S. He told her a whole different story and got a $20.00 check from her. He was a VERY good scammer. We think he used UGA with us because my husband is an alum who answered the front door with a UGA visor on his head. Diane probably had something “Milton H.S.” around her house that he picked up on.
We called 911 and the Milton Police came out. This part shocks me the most. They stopped the boy and ran his name. They said there was nothing on him in the system and there was nothing they could do except tell him to leave the neighborhood. I was shocked. I said he was obviously lying and scamming people out of money and the police officer said the problem is it is similar to a “used car salesman”. They can say anything they want and try to get you to give them money. It’s a “buyer beware” situation. I still don’t completely understand how this isn’t illegal and why this boy wasn’t arrested, but bottom line is PLEASE BE CAREFUL who you let into your house and give money to. This is a perfect example of why I am so “over the top” about soliciting in Milton. People here are so trusting and generous and we are easy to take advantage of. The officer also said that they had gotten a lot of phone calls over the past few days about this “group”. He then explained to me that the “group” usually busses kids in from South Fulton. They give them the books and magazine subscription forms and anything else they need to make it look legit. He said this wasn’t just this one boy working on his own. It’s a whole group running a larger scam.
Please be careful and don’t buy anything from solicitors. There is no way to tell who is legit and who isn’t in my opinion.

Dog Found in Milton!
Please help us find her home.....
A tan and white dog wandered into my garage last night. (I live right off Dinsmore/Freemanville area.)
She is about 2-2 1/2 feet tall, tan/white and looks like a collie mix (sort of a greyhound face). She has a bandaged back paw and is very sweet.

Dear Milton Neighbors:
The email below began circulating in our area yesterday, April 19th, and was confirmed as truthful by several residents that personally know the two families in the Tullamore subdivision.
Also of great concern is the unconfirmed report of an robbery in the Oaks at White Columns subdivision where the police responded to a security alarm break in and found a man armed with a gun in the home when searched.
Additionally, a home in the Birmingham community appears to have been "cased" by a African American woman, well-dressed, with a clipboard who states that she is from the Fulton County Pool Inspection office and must walk around the home to look at backyards. She was seen walking around the perimeter of a home (without a pool) at least three times and when the homeowner called Fulton County they found out that there is no such department.
The date and time of these last two incidents are unknown.
Let's keep the emails going strong around our area and notify your friends and neighbors in Milton if you are aware of questionable activity. Of course, after calling 9-1-1 and reporting it to the Police first.

stolen from it. Immediately following this , our neighbor was robbed at
gun point. He was in his office, over the garage,
while his wife and children were asleep in the house.
The robbers were described as two young (18-20) year old, well spoken,
black men.
We were shocked to think that this could happen in our area, and told
by Milton Police that this was the first armed robbery to occur in
Milton.
Please alert your neighbors and pass this along. The Milton Police are
working to
catch these guys, but until they do they are still out there, and a
potential danger to the community.

Dog Found on Freemanville
A dog was found by the Nadler's near the intersection of Freemanville and Redd Road. They took him to the vet and sadly there is no microchip. As you can tell from his photo, this sweet guy has been looking for food for some time.
There was another dog seen lost near the same spot but has not been saved from harm yet. We are not sure if these two are related.
Do you know anything about this dog? Could it belong to one of your neighbors? Could one of you have it in your heart to adopt him and give him a chance in a happy home?

He was left by his owners who moved back overseas..... He's staying with my sister in law at her condo right now - she says he's a wonderful dog but way too big to live in a condo - he really needs a garden to run around in..... he weighs about 65 pounds and is just over 3 years old.
All his shots are up to date, he sleeps in a crate & he's been neutered.

An older black Lab was found at Shannondale Farm at 2225 Birmingham Road (closer to Hopewell Road) in Milton about 6:30 this evening. They called me and now I have the dog at my home. He is jet black other than a white/grey muzzle and feet (i.e nicknamed "Shoes" by my children) and a green shock collar (with dead battery) but no tags. He also has a green scarf with fire trucks tied around his neck.
Do you know anyone missing a older black Lab? Could you please forward this email to your friends and neighbors in Milton so we can get him home.
He sure is a sweet old fella!

Please Help Locate Missing Dog named HOWIE
Mini chocolate dappled Dachsund with one blue eye and one sorta dark grey. No tag (bad Momma) about 1.5 feet long and probably about 6 or7 years old. Very sweet, might bark at a stranger at first but very quickly relents. If you say "Howie, you wanna treat?" He goes nuts!!!
What else......His coloring is a light dapple and he is supppossedly a wire haired dachsund, I personally don't think he looks wire haired but that's what the paper work said!!!
As soon as I can possibly find a picture I will get it to you promptly.

The Porter Academy Needs You

I’m not sure if this is something you distribute – I got this from one of my neighbors, the author of this letter. The Porter School is a very special “special-needs” school located at Arnold Mill and Cox Road. Anyway, just thought I’d pass it on in case this was something you were interested in passing on...

I am the occupational therapist at Porter Academy - a small private school for kids with learning differences (changed our name from The Porter School). We are having our big annual fundraiser September 19th - a frisbee golf tournament for the kids. All of the money raised in this fundraiser goes towards building the extension onto our building (which we desperately need because we have grown out of our current space). But I go into all that in the attached letter. While this specific fundraiser is our excuse to ask for money, please do not feel limited by that date. We will be collecting money throughout the year for many years to try to pay for this building. Now's just very important b/c we need to convince ourselves that we have enough to proceed with the plans.
I know we're all crazy busy, but please take the time to read about the school and help out to any extent that is comfortable for you. I thing the greatest thing people can do is spread the word and ask your contacts if they can help out a bit too.
Off topic, but I was amazed when we were trying to find a home for a dog and I emailed Paul Broni and Marian, who had contacts with an animal rescue lady, who had tons of connections. There was just this huge outpouring of help b/c a couple people sent to each of their contacts. It was very exciting. So if that sort of thing could happen for the school, and everyone gave $5-$10, that would be a big help. Just hoping for a very wide-spread birthday collection pot :-)
So anyway, I'll stop rambling in the message and let you read the attached letter.......
About nine years ago, my mom (a speech therapist) started a school for kids with learning differences, and I now work there with her as one of the occupational therapists. The school has grown very quickly, as the societal need for schools like this is huge. We are currently filled to capacity at 68 kids and hope to grow to 75 students next year. We work with kids who struggle with things like dyslexia, language processing, attention deficit disorder, auditory processing disorder, visual processing, sensory integration disorder, poor organization, and fine and gross motor delays. Children who struggle with these things have a really hard time functioning in typical schools. Many of them are missing foundational skills that would allow them to sit still, attend, and take in information in a regular classroom. Most regular classroom teachers, no matter how caring, do not understand what is blocking these students from success, do not know how to help them, and do not have the resources available to them that would make it possible for them to help. These students need small groups, quiet learning environments, and multi-sensory learning techniques. Our school provides these things very well. Students who have given in to failure in typical learning environments come to our school and experience success for the first time. They gain the skills and the confidence they need to succeed in middle school, high school, and sometimes college.
The thing is that the teaching techniques that these children need in order to succeed require quite a bit of space, whether that space be for breaking into small (quiet) academic groups, doing bilateral coordination and sensory activities with the whole class in order to get the two sides of their brains communicating with each other, moving to the “planets song” with the music therapist, or acting out a story with the drama teacher. We currently do not have enough space to do these things with 75 students (it’s awfully tight with 68). Hence this letter.
We have plans to build an extension on to our current building (architectural plans done, potential loans and grants pending). This addition would house four new classrooms, each with a small breakout room, as well as a large multi-purpose room. It would provide enough space for every classroom to be able to break up into the small groups that these students need as well as the space needed to fully utilize the specialists at the school. We feel this summer is our best chance to get this done because construction works are in need of work due to the economic difficulties our country is having. And I do realize the irony of asking you to contribute some of your money during these hard times, but if you can just contribute a little and maybe get some of your friends to contribute a little, it will add up.
I really do believe in this school. It does amazing things for kids who have not found success anywhere else. Please go to the website and learn more. About nine years ago, my mom (a speech therapist) started a school for kids with learning differences, and I now work there with her as one of the occupational therapists. The school has grown very quickly, as the societal need for schools like this is huge. We are currently filled to capacity at 68 kids and hope to grow to 75 students next year. We work with kids who struggle with things like dyslexia, language processing, attention deficit disorder, auditory processing disorder, visual processing, sensory integration disorder, poor organization, and fine and gross motor delays. Children who struggle with these things have a really hard time functioning in typical schools. Many of them are missing foundational skills that would allow them to sit still, attend, and take in information in a regular classroom. Most regular classroom teachers, no matter how caring, do not understand what is blocking these students from success, do not know how to help them, and do not have the resources available to them that would make it possible for them to help. These students need small groups, quiet learning environments, and multi-sensory learning techniques. Our school provides these things very well. Students who have given in to failure in typical learning environments come to our school and experience success for the first time. They gain the skills and the confidence they need to succeed in middle school, high school, and sometimes college.
The thing is that the teaching techniques that these children need in order to succeed require quite a bit of space, whether that space be for breaking into small (quiet) academic groups, doing bilateral coordination and sensory activities with the whole class in order to get the two sides of their brains communicating with each other, moving to the “planets song” with the music therapist, or acting out a story with the drama teacher. We currently do not have enough space to do these things with 75 students (it’s awfully tight with 68). Hence this letter.
We have plans to build an extension on to our current building (architectural plans done, potential loans and grants pending). This addition would house four new classrooms, each with a small breakout room, as well as a large multi-purpose room. It would provide enough space for every classroom to be able to break up into the small groups that these students need as well as the space needed to fully utilize the specialists at the school. We feel this summer is our best chance to get this done because construction works are in need of work due to the economic difficulties our country is having. And I do realize the irony of asking you to contribute some of your money during these hard times, but if you can just contribute a little and maybe get some of your friends to contribute a little, it will add up.

Update on "Milton" Kittens

It is Sunday and the kittens found a new foster mom. Thanks to Milton Police Officer Adrienne Symanowski and Cari Shuler of All Pets, Cari called her contact at the Humane Society and this morning they were given to Elizabeth Kennedy, who is the wife of one of our Milton firefighters. They have two beautiful daughters who cuddled them right away. What a small world!
I tried to e-mail all that has shown interest in them so if I left anyone out, please tell them the good news. Thanks so much for helping these babies.
We would love for them to be adopted after they have completed their bottle feeding stage. If anyone is interested, they may contact me or Fonda Messer, Deputy City Clerk, at City Hall.

Dog Needs A Home!
My next door neighbor, Jennifer Greenway is moving to California. She has been through so much in the last six months, losing her husband in February and her Mother this past month. For a number of reasons, she has decided she needs to find a new home for her dog. Cinder is a beautiful English Setter. Doug Greenway trained him to be his hunting dog but Cinder didn't like the sound of rifle fire so he became just a great family pet. He is very well trained and a loving companion. He loves to be outside and is used to an invisible fence. If any of you know of someone looking for a pet or if you might consider one for yourself, please let me know. Jennifer is leaving on Sunday so we need to find Cinder a home quickly. You may wonder why I'm not taking him. We already have a family dog and a cat and I just don't think we should add another dog to the mix. But, I would love to know that he is with another loving family.

Please Help Find Daisy
Daisy went missing today at approximately 2:30 pm (Wed, 8/27) after the Crabapple Lawn Service left our side gate open. She is a beautiful, sweet, loyal companion and loves children. She is a rescue dog that does not deserve anymore hardships. She was last seen in our neighborhood, Providence @ Atlanta National. The search area has been the immediate area, New Providence Road to Doris and Doris to Birmingham Highway. She has never previously run away or been lost. She can be a bit shy especially of men due to her previous abuse, but she is not aggressive. She is a spayed, female, very dark yellow (pretty honey color) with a pine green color (with rabies tag/license/and microchip tag) and she is approximately 6 years old. We searched until 10:30 pm this evening amongst tears with no luck.
We would be so grateful to anyone that could make our family whole again!

Four tiny kittens at just 4 weeks old (approximate age), were found under City of Milton's very own city clerk Jeanette Marchiafava's home, and abandoned by their mother.
They are so small, no telling which are male and female.
You could call them Milton - or Millie!

The Woodlands is one of the last stop race tracks in the Greyhound racing industry, the remaining 400 will be 'returned' to the breeders and likely put-to-sleep.
They need as much help as they can get for fosters, adoptions, transports, etc. PLEASE contact them if

All Lab Pups Adopted
When called to adopt, Bill said this email has been circulated a few weeks ago and all the dogs have already found a home. That's the good news.
Even though, some hearts were broken when they found that out. So many people have been interested and all four of the puppies could have been adopted in just two days. That means you are forwarding by email to save one dog at a time and we, and they, say Thank You!

Bear Found and now safe at home....

Yeah, it worked yet again!!! Sweet Bear was rescued by someone in a black jeep at Hopewell/Francis. Awesome news. By putting up signs and sending emails to one another, he's on his way home.
Please, please, please still look for Bud (golden lab mix) and Willie (black lab with bad eye). It used to be that Milton folks looked for lost cows that wandered off and sometimes into strange places from what I've heard. Now its mostly dogs.
Helping a neighbor to find their lost pet is the cooler part of a small community if we're thinking of keeping our rural small town atmosphere. Every year many loyal family pets bolt out of their yards and thru invisible dog fences from thunder and fireworks. Once mine did and one of you saved him. And I've found many others out and about, lost in Milton.
Thanks for looking out for them! They are so so good to us.

Another Lab is Lost in Milton. Note the light brown nose. Bear is a very sweet natured. Please help us find her!
Please help us find Bear. She is an 11 year old Yellow Lab and looks almost white. She is fairly built at roughly 65 lbs. Her eyes are a hazel/green color with blond eyelashes. She is very sweet and gets very nervous. She rain away yesterday during the storms because the thunder scared her. She did NOT have her collar on so she has no identity tags. She has a good coat of hair and sheds a lot.

Bud Update, Still Missing
Update on Bud:
After putting out notices in the immediate area on Saturday, Bud's Dad got a call from Cynthia Chandlee who lives in the little rock house on the crossroads of Freemanville and Birmingham Road.
She caught him on Freemanville road, just past W Columns at around 5.30 on Friday 4th. She put him in her car, took him home and put him in a horse stall in her barn. By later that evening he had jumped the half door and gone (surprise eh?).
Anyway; no sightings since. They have put out lots of posters and have driven and searched.
Bud is very resourceful and resilient; we can only hope he is in the area; disoriented from his short car journey and will be spotted scavaging for food. Any suggestions or assistance would be much appreciated.

Bud is Still Missing, Please Help!
Still no sign; we are very worried as he has never been gone this long.
A possible sighting in White Columns yesterday which we are following up. We have called shelters and hospitals with no sign of him; so still holding out that he might be local but far enough away to not find his way home. We think he panicked on Friday (some early fireworks) and was gone by the time we arrived home late afternoon.
Flyer attached that we have put around locally; lots of people alerted and looking for him. Many thanks for your concern, we will keep you posted.

His name is Bud. He is a Lab Chow mix and has been missing from Wood Valley subdivision since mid afternoon July 4th.
He is a reddish yellow color, with a smooth coat. He has a black spotted tongue, is eleven years old and is greying around the muzzle. He weighs 65/70 lbs. He is not wearing a collar.

Another Dog Needs A Home, Meet Luke!
Luke will be euthanized at the end of the week if a foster or permanent home cannot be found for him. The vet has asked for help finding him a home because he is such a good dog that just needs a chance. It is not often that she summons clients and rescuers for help because there are always so many needs. She has called so we are helping however we can.
Please send this to anyone who might help us circulate this for Luke. There are other dogs (lab mixes, Rottweiler mix, etc.) in need that I also have photos of if Luke is not of interest, but I believe he is the most urgent.

Milton Police Dept. Issues Citizen Alert Regarding Credit Card Fraud
Milton’s Public Safety department is advising residents to be watchful for potential fraudulent credit card charges related to the recent theft of data from the Alpharetta Wild Wings Café. Residents who have used their credit or debit cards at this establishment within the last three months are advised to review recent statements and to closely monitor new charges to their accounts.
“To date, at least six Milton residents have fallen victim to this theft, resulting in charges of between $30,000 and $40,000. Victims have also been uncovered in Gwinnett, Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Roswell and Forsyth County,” said Chris Lagerbloom, Director of Public Safety. “While it has not yet been determined how the data was compromised, we anticipate the fraudulent charges could continue for several weeks to come.”
Any activity thought to be fraudulent should be reported immediately to the Milton Police Department at 678.242.2570.

Dog Still Needs A Home - FAST
A home still has not been found and this sweet girl is in need of a home very fast. The family where the dog appeared already has two dogs and a bunch of kids so another animal is out of the question or they would keep her. Dog Found!
It's beginning to look like animals are being dropped off in Milton because folks may not be able to care for them?? Not certain why the increase but recently, there have been many more cases of dogs showing up in subdivisions. Last week another black lab mix was kicked out of a van and left at a home on Freemanville Road. The homeowner watched the whole thing but couldn't get there quick enough to get a license plate. The dog just ended up walking down the road. Two weeks ago, another family on Wood Road had a litter of kittens dropped off at their home. Another litter dropped off on Brittle Road a while back. Y'all probably know of more stories like this around your own neighborhood.
Please forward emails about lost/found animals so we can reunite pets with families or find new homes for them, if needed. This email distribution list is limited.

Hi everyone....yesterday we acquired a third dog! She arrived in our yard and stayed here for hours-no collar or tags. I took her to our vet, and she has no chip. They helped me a little with some ticks she had-we applied frontline and she seems in pretty good health, so I'm at a loss as to where she came from. She is SO sweet! Wonderful with our kids, you can tell she's been around people, ridden in a car etc. I'm going to post some signs today but I'm sending this email to see if anyone could possible know of where she could belong, or if you would want to take her into your home to keep or know someone that would want to. I would keep her-that's how much I love her!....but with 2 dogs already we just can't. I really wouldn't be promoting her if I didn't think she was great-I'm just heartbroken because I just can't take her to Fulton Co. :( Please email me...forward this on...anything you can do to help-we need to solve the problem in the next day or so. The deepening foreclosure crisis is having an effect. A growing number of pet owners are abandoning their pets or surrendering them to shelters after losing their homes or being forced into housing that doesn't allow animals, said Brian Adams, spokesman for the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals-Angell Animal Medical Center.
"We've seen where people have abandoned dogs in the house, we've seen dogs that have been surviving for weeks on toilet water, we've seen dogs that have either been chained up outside or left in the yard when the people have left, we've seen cats who are just set free," Adams said.
"We've seen people do something sort of in the middle of the road — where they don't abandon it, they don't surrender it, but they give it to a neighbor or friend and then that person brings it in maybe a week or two later when they realize, you know, it was something that was sort of dumped on them when they weren't really ready for it yet," he said.

Dog Found
This morning a female yellow lab was found running through the Morris Lake Neighborhood (Morris Road between Bethany Bend and Webb Road).
If anyone knows of someone missing their dog please let myself (Stephanie Smith, 770-294-6367) or Tracey Robinson (770-355-1763) know. She is wearing a collar and seems very well behaved. She is obviously someone’s pet.

Anyone wishing to make a donation of 0-positive or O-negative blood needs to call Susan Smitherman (cell: 770-329-9481) so she call call in their name to the Special Collection Order at Red Cross in order for the blood to go to Bruce. His blood type is O-negative, but there is a medication he is on that will allow him to take O-positive blood.
Then the person should call 1-800-448-3543 to make an appointment at the Red Cross location of their choice.

UPDATE: Golden Has a New Home
Randy and Ken Hall adopted Woody the Golden Retriever yesterday. Same day they saw the email. They lost a Golden last year and he looked just like Woody. Over 100 people called in one day to inquire about adopting him. Today they called to say that Woody is loving life, they are loving him like crazy and taking him for lots of rides in the car.
Gotta love happy endings.

Golden Needs Loving Home

A local family is desperately trying to find a loving home for their 1 year Golden Retriever "Woody". As you'll see in the pictures, he is a beautiful Golden with a playful spirit. He was adopted when he was a puppy and has his purebred papers. He has been house trained and can do basic commands on a leash but has a little work to do when he's not a leash. He has been an indoor and outdoor dog and crate trained too. He has been loved and played with over the past year by a loving family, however, due to the kids busy school and recreational schedule they haven't been able to give Woody the full "playful" attention a puppy needs when they get home from school early in the evening.

Tree Planting in recognition of National Arbor Day
Milton to Celebrate Arbor Day
with Tree Planting
at Bell Memorial Park
4 p.m. TODAY!
On Friday, April 25, the City of Milton will recognize National Arbor Day with a special tree planting event. The ceremony, which will begin at 4 p.m. at Bell Memorial Park, will include the planting of a "Princeton' American Elm tree donated by Tommy Nobis, Jr. of Buck Jones and Associates.
The Princeton American Elm is a wonderful shade tree with large, leathery foliage that turns yellow in the Fall. The hardy tree can grow three to six feet a year during its early development, and can eventually reach 80 to 100 feet in height. Princeton American Elm trees were selected by the National Park Service to line all three blocks of Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House.

In addition to the planting of the Princeton American Elm, visitors at the event can take home their very own Green Ash seedling tree to plant. The Green Ash tree is known for its ability to tolerate a wide range of growing conditions, whether wet or dry.

There is a group of individuals with much information about the specifics in the transactions (between the Fulton County Board of Education and the previous owner(s) including Kings Ridge) and the issue of eminent domain and more. Don't think there isn't a chance to fight for right for a healthy, clean environment in which to live and raise our families when the facts are too obvious not to be considered. The very essence of Milton, the most central equestrian and rural part of our city is at risk of disappearing without your voice.
Why? Because the land was available and a deal was made with a possible abuse of power, or intentional neglect, and the future health of our children and our environment will be compromised if a school is put on septic at this site.
What is the alternative? Sewer on Freemanville Road? Or a no sewer policy upheld, moving Birmingham High School to a suitable location.

City Council has been given an official summary from our Engineers regarding the environmental issues associated with this site.
Jim Garrigus, of Garrigus Consulting will be attending with me to answer questions from City Council.
Here is a very brief summary of what will be shared and reviewed at the meeting:
The studies concluded that Chicken Creek, which borders the property, is already in dire condition based on EPD/EPA protocol testing. The E-coli levels are at a high level before any schools open one door for operation. The E-coli levels in February, 2007 are between 750 and 870 colonies per 100 ml. The poor water quality is due to non-point source runoff (pasture land) and (storm water runoff), at existing conditions. Adding several schools on septic will further degrade the water quality of the streams that feed Chicken Creek and further pollute Chicken Creek from surface water runoff from impervious areas (parking lots, sports fields, etc.) and groundwater flow from the septic systems from the schools. We have determined that at the current condition, Chicken Creek may have very limited ability to handle any more bacterial load (pollution). The bed of Chicken Creek is also 60% silt at Freemanville Road, which is smothering the habitat. The impact of more silt from construction activity will degrade the stream even more. Silt smothers the ability for habitat to reproduce, feed and survive.
There are sites within the City limits of the City of Milton that can be served by existing sewer facilities, which records show were never considered by the FCBOE in it's search for a site for these schools in Milton.
The BOE made very little effort to consider alternative sites based on the Open Records Act Information.
Due to the significant environmental issues and impacts relating to the proposed Freemanville School sites, the BOE should reopen it's search for a site that has access to existing sewer systems first and foremost as to not pollute and degrade the Watersheds and environment in Milton.
Please come and support Protect Milton Monday night, and our efforts to protect this property from ruin by the building of schools. Protect Milton and it's constituents and supporters are opposing this site for Environmental reason's only. The schools and the septic systems will destroy this property, degrade the streams on it, and further degrade and pollute Chicken Creek with additional bacteria.
This property is in the Coosa River Basin Watershed and all of the streams and bodies of water on this property drain to Chicken Creek, which then drain on to other creeks (Little River), and into Lake Allatoona. Our schools and our children are very important, but the water and the environment surrounding all of us is vital to everyone's existence and must be protected from unnecessary pollution. The BOE has complete jurisdiction so they have the ability and responsibility to put their schools anywhere and not pollute the environment in doing so.

UPDATE: Yellow Lab Back at Home
Thanks to all who responded. We have an wonderful almost six degrees network of neighbors and friends and almost always find lost pets, or in the case of the D'Aversa family, the community emails eventually led them to a new dog, Bella the Beagle. I encourage you all to keep forwarding too. I'm always so amazed at how fast dogs are found around Milton.

Bella was Adopted!!
The following was received tonight (scroll down).
Note: This is what happens when a community as tight as ours forwards emails. We get lost dogs back to their homes and we sometimes take them in when our own doggie has been lost.
Background.... About a month ago, the D'Aversa family lost their Beagle which devastated the family as it would anyone's. An email was sent out from a network of community members to look out for their dog, JJ. Sadly, they haven't been able to find her yet, but always hopeful. Just last week an email was circulated about "Bella the Beagle" with that incredible face and it was forwarded to the D'Aversa's and now they are adopting her.
Thanks to everyone for helping out. So cool.....

It is so nice to see now that a lost Beagle (Bella) has a new home and though we know J.J. can never be replaced, there is now a beagle back in Tina's household easing their loss a bit.
To me, this is what living is a small community like Milton is all about!!!!!!!

After a week of beagle kisses and hugs, it was tough to see her go, but best for everyone!
I am overwhelmed by the support that was given for this Beagle and I want to thank everyone who forwarded an email, made a call or said a prayer. I will keep the email address 'open' and pass along any inquiries to the Atlanta Beagle rescue and hopefully we can save even more pups! However if you could spread the word that this beagle has found a forever home I would appreciate it.
I also wanted to volunteer that if ever you should run across a stray, email me and I would consider fostering again in the near future especially with this fabulous network & support.

Dog Needs A Home!
Subject: Please help - young beagle for adoption
Hello all,
Three days ago I came into possession of a stray female beagle and I need to find her a forever home. I have been able to come into some information because apparently this isn’t her first escape. Unfortunately I can’t find out where she lives and there has been no attempt to find her that I am aware of. Attached is a picture of the collar that she was wearing, there were no tags, no microchip and neither of the vets I took her to recognized her. Animal control has no record of a missing pet by this description. Short of turning her into Animal Control this is my only option. I can not keep her!
Here is what I know:
Her name is Bella
She is approximately 1.5 years old
She is spayed
She is crate trained
She is a smaller beagle
Rumor has it that she is up to date on her shots, but I have no way of verifying without knowing her vet.
She has been here 3 nights now and had an initial ‘accident’ when I brought her into the house. She has not had one since. The first night I put her in her crate, she slept for 2 hours and then howled waking me up. She went out and went to the bathroom right away. I decided to try her in the bed and she slept next to me for 6 hours without moving and inch. The other 2 nights she has been in her crate for 8+ hours without a peep or an accident. I would say she will need a little more work in potty training but mostly just consistency. She has been in a crate while I am at work and roams the house when I am home.
She is an escape artist. She wants a lot of attention so if she is left alone in a yard she will dig out or climb out to go find it. I have had her on a runner even with the fenced yard and she has mastered maneuvering it without a problem! It seems to be the solution in letting her roam.
She plays very well with others; I have had her with both males and females, small, medium and large. She loves the companionship. She would be fine as an only dog, but many times in the past 3 days she has curled up next to my dog when I wasn’t sitting still for her to snuggle with. She also does very well with kids, letting them fawn all over her.
She is an amazing dog who just needs a family to love her!

Letter from Alpharetta Police re: North Park Incident
Received tonight:
Detectives Haynes and Shoffeitt have arrested the suspect involved in the case at North Park . He is charged with public indecency and child molestation / sexual gratification in front of a child (no physical contact). We have contacted Forsyth County as the suspect meets the description of a suspicious person call at Midway Park the day before our incident. The suspect has admitted to being at Midway Park on that date at the same time. Forsyth County does not have any criminal charges at this time. I applaud both our detectives for their fast and professional effort to bring this case to a close and get this suspect locked away from our community.

As of today the suspected "sexual predator" from North Park is in custody and has Confessed.
He has been charged with public indecency and child molestation / sexual gratification in front of a child (no physical contact).
This was not the first time this man has done this; however, I think it is the first time he has been arrested.
If anyone knows the family that witnessed this mans indecent behavior, please pass the information on. They may or may not know.
