There is a an Orange truck with stickers on it trying to look like an
"OFFICIAL DOT" selling asphalt. He is NOT "OFFICIAL" and is ripping people off. Driving around door to door (looks very shady too) Telling them it is
left over from a state job and will only charge $2-$3 a square foot. Any other real paving company charges by the square yard $10-$12. There are 9 square feet in a square yard.
Milton Police have been notified.

Found 2 Dogs, Please Help get them Home!
This a.m. there were 2 dogs roaming ReddStone; they were on Brickwood Lane. I picked them up, but unfortunately neither one has collars. They both smell like horses, so my guess is that they came from one of our local horse farms. Please check out the pictures and their descriptions to see if you recognize them. If not, please forward this email on to anyone you know that lives near us… Brittle/Cowart/Summit Roads, Phillips Circle, Wood Road, Freemanville, etc.

If you do not know the "new" neighbor, then don't give them any money. We've heard of other scams such as this with magazine subscription scams in our area. If you know the child/teen asking for your support, it's probably fine, but if you don't then be very cautious about handing over money and signing forms. And, above all, be cautious about letting someone enter your home in light of the most recent crime activity in our area.
As always, first call 9-1-1 if you suspect anything wrong, and the Milton Police will be dispatched.

Dear Neighbors,
I wanted to make you all aware of an incident we had at our home yesterday (Saturday 5/25/09). It was about 5:30pm, I was in the basement with the kids and my husband was upstairs in the kitchen. I heard the doorbell ring, but when my husband didn’t call for me I figured he handled whatever it was. About 10 minutes later I went upstairs and saw my husband sitting at the kitchen table with a young man (white male in polo shirt and jeans, about 19 – 22 years old). My husband was writing him a check. I walked over and asked what was going on. My husband said “this is Steve Burton, they just moved into the neighborhood recently and he is a student at UGA raising money for the school band”. I was very confused because I am pretty up on who lives in our neighborhood (with only 74 homes it’s not that difficult) and as far as I knew there was no “Burton” in the neighborhood. I looked at him and asked where exactly he lived in the neighborhood. He said 410 The Hermitage Drive – 2nd home on the left. I went and pulled out the neighborhood directory and I know who lives in that house and it has not changed ownership in the past 5 years. I then continued through the directory and told him there was noBurton in the neighborhood and that he does not live at 410 The Hermitage Drive. He was very confident and explained that they had only moved here 6 months ago and since he lives away at school he may have the address wrong. He said since they are so new to the neighborhood, they aren’t in the directory yet. I confronted him further by saying the directory is brand new and just came out last week. He said it must be a mistake and he will have his mother look into it. I asked him for his home phone number because I wanted to call his mother and he said he didn’t remember the number and his mother’s cell phone was off right now so that wouldn’t help. He also went on to say that his mother was good friends with Diane Godby (my neighbor) and that she could vouch for him. I called Diane but unfortunately there was no answer at her house. This went on and on. He sat at our kitchen table and told lie after lie and was as confident as he could be. He said he would get his mom and be back in about an hour and get the check from us at that time. He had an answer for everything I confronted him about. I told him point blank “your story isn’t adding up” and he wasn’t flustered one bit. We asked him to leave our house and he had the nerve to ask what other homes he should visit. We said “NONE – everyone here is very suspicious of solicitors and until you can get your mom to confirm that you live here, we wouldn’t recommend he go to any other homes.” He said “ok, I understand and can I have a bottle of water.”
After he left I got in touch with my neighbor (the one his mother is supposed to be great friends with) and she said she has no idea who he is. She said he came to her house and said he was with Milton H.S. He told her a whole different story and got a $20.00 check from her. He was a VERY good scammer. We think he used UGA with us because my husband is an alum who answered the front door with a UGA visor on his head. Diane probably had something “Milton H.S.” around her house that he picked up on.
We called 911 and the Milton Police came out. This part shocks me the most. They stopped the boy and ran his name. They said there was nothing on him in the system and there was nothing they could do except tell him to leave the neighborhood. I was shocked. I said he was obviously lying and scamming people out of money and the police officer said the problem is it is similar to a “used car salesman”. They can say anything they want and try to get you to give them money. It’s a “buyer beware” situation. I still don’t completely understand how this isn’t illegal and why this boy wasn’t arrested, but bottom line is PLEASE BE CAREFUL who you let into your house and give money to. This is a perfect example of why I am so “over the top” about soliciting in Milton. People here are so trusting and generous and we are easy to take advantage of. The officer also said that they had gotten a lot of phone calls over the past few days about this “group”. He then explained to me that the “group” usually busses kids in from South Fulton. They give them the books and magazine subscription forms and anything else they need to make it look legit. He said this wasn’t just this one boy working on his own. It’s a whole group running a larger scam.
Please be careful and don’t buy anything from solicitors. There is no way to tell who is legit and who isn’t in my opinion.

12 Goats Found Roaming Lost in Milton

Dog Found in Milton!
Please help us find her home.....
A tan and white dog wandered into my garage last night. (I live right off Dinsmore/Freemanville area.)
She is about 2-2 1/2 feet tall, tan/white and looks like a collie mix (sort of a greyhound face). She has a bandaged back paw and is very sweet.

Dear Milton Neighbors:
The email below began circulating in our area yesterday, April 19th, and was confirmed as truthful by several residents that personally know the two families in the Tullamore subdivision.
Also of great concern is the unconfirmed report of an robbery in the Oaks at White Columns subdivision where the police responded to a security alarm break in and found a man armed with a gun in the home when searched.
Additionally, a home in the Birmingham community appears to have been "cased" by a African American woman, well-dressed, with a clipboard who states that she is from the Fulton County Pool Inspection office and must walk around the home to look at backyards. She was seen walking around the perimeter of a home (without a pool) at least three times and when the homeowner called Fulton County they found out that there is no such department.
The date and time of these last two incidents are unknown.
Let's keep the emails going strong around our area and notify your friends and neighbors in Milton if you are aware of questionable activity. Of course, after calling 9-1-1 and reporting it to the Police first.

stolen from it. Immediately following this , our neighbor was robbed at
gun point. He was in his office, over the garage,
while his wife and children were asleep in the house.
The robbers were described as two young (18-20) year old, well spoken,
black men.
We were shocked to think that this could happen in our area, and told
by Milton Police that this was the first armed robbery to occur in
Milton.
Please alert your neighbors and pass this along. The Milton Police are
working to
catch these guys, but until they do they are still out there, and a
potential danger to the community.

Dog Found on Freemanville
A dog was found by the Nadler's near the intersection of Freemanville and Redd Road. They took him to the vet and sadly there is no microchip. As you can tell from his photo, this sweet guy has been looking for food for some time.
There was another dog seen lost near the same spot but has not been saved from harm yet. We are not sure if these two are related.
Do you know anything about this dog? Could it belong to one of your neighbors? Could one of you have it in your heart to adopt him and give him a chance in a happy home?

He was left by his owners who moved back overseas..... He's staying with my sister in law at her condo right now - she says he's a wonderful dog but way too big to live in a condo - he really needs a garden to run around in..... he weighs about 65 pounds and is just over 3 years old.
All his shots are up to date, he sleeps in a crate & he's been neutered.

An older black Lab was found at Shannondale Farm at 2225 Birmingham Road (closer to Hopewell Road) in Milton about 6:30 this evening. They called me and now I have the dog at my home. He is jet black other than a white/grey muzzle and feet (i.e nicknamed "Shoes" by my children) and a green shock collar (with dead battery) but no tags. He also has a green scarf with fire trucks tied around his neck.
Do you know anyone missing a older black Lab? Could you please forward this email to your friends and neighbors in Milton so we can get him home.
He sure is a sweet old fella!

Please Help Locate Missing Dog named HOWIE
Mini chocolate dappled Dachsund with one blue eye and one sorta dark grey. No tag (bad Momma) about 1.5 feet long and probably about 6 or7 years old. Very sweet, might bark at a stranger at first but very quickly relents. If you say "Howie, you wanna treat?" He goes nuts!!!
What else......His coloring is a light dapple and he is supppossedly a wire haired dachsund, I personally don't think he looks wire haired but that's what the paper work said!!!
As soon as I can possibly find a picture I will get it to you promptly.

The Porter Academy Needs You

I’m not sure if this is something you distribute – I got this from one of my neighbors, the author of this letter. The Porter School is a very special “special-needs” school located at Arnold Mill and Cox Road. Anyway, just thought I’d pass it on in case this was something you were interested in passing on...

I am the occupational therapist at Porter Academy - a small private school for kids with learning differences (changed our name from The Porter School). We are having our big annual fundraiser September 19th - a frisbee golf tournament for the kids. All of the money raised in this fundraiser goes towards building the extension onto our building (which we desperately need because we have grown out of our current space). But I go into all that in the attached letter. While this specific fundraiser is our excuse to ask for money, please do not feel limited by that date. We will be collecting money throughout the year for many years to try to pay for this building. Now's just very important b/c we need to convince ourselves that we have enough to proceed with the plans.
I know we're all crazy busy, but please take the time to read about the school and help out to any extent that is comfortable for you. I thing the greatest thing people can do is spread the word and ask your contacts if they can help out a bit too.
Off topic, but I was amazed when we were trying to find a home for a dog and I emailed Paul Broni and Marian, who had contacts with an animal rescue lady, who had tons of connections. There was just this huge outpouring of help b/c a couple people sent to each of their contacts. It was very exciting. So if that sort of thing could happen for the school, and everyone gave $5-$10, that would be a big help. Just hoping for a very wide-spread birthday collection pot :-)
So anyway, I'll stop rambling in the message and let you read the attached letter.......
About nine years ago, my mom (a speech therapist) started a school for kids with learning differences, and I now work there with her as one of the occupational therapists. The school has grown very quickly, as the societal need for schools like this is huge. We are currently filled to capacity at 68 kids and hope to grow to 75 students next year. We work with kids who struggle with things like dyslexia, language processing, attention deficit disorder, auditory processing disorder, visual processing, sensory integration disorder, poor organization, and fine and gross motor delays. Children who struggle with these things have a really hard time functioning in typical schools. Many of them are missing foundational skills that would allow them to sit still, attend, and take in information in a regular classroom. Most regular classroom teachers, no matter how caring, do not understand what is blocking these students from success, do not know how to help them, and do not have the resources available to them that would make it possible for them to help. These students need small groups, quiet learning environments, and multi-sensory learning techniques. Our school provides these things very well. Students who have given in to failure in typical learning environments come to our school and experience success for the first time. They gain the skills and the confidence they need to succeed in middle school, high school, and sometimes college.
The thing is that the teaching techniques that these children need in order to succeed require quite a bit of space, whether that space be for breaking into small (quiet) academic groups, doing bilateral coordination and sensory activities with the whole class in order to get the two sides of their brains communicating with each other, moving to the “planets song” with the music therapist, or acting out a story with the drama teacher. We currently do not have enough space to do these things with 75 students (it’s awfully tight with 68). Hence this letter.
We have plans to build an extension on to our current building (architectural plans done, potential loans and grants pending). This addition would house four new classrooms, each with a small breakout room, as well as a large multi-purpose room. It would provide enough space for every classroom to be able to break up into the small groups that these students need as well as the space needed to fully utilize the specialists at the school. We feel this summer is our best chance to get this done because construction works are in need of work due to the economic difficulties our country is having. And I do realize the irony of asking you to contribute some of your money during these hard times, but if you can just contribute a little and maybe get some of your friends to contribute a little, it will add up.
I really do believe in this school. It does amazing things for kids who have not found success anywhere else. Please go to the website and learn more. About nine years ago, my mom (a speech therapist) started a school for kids with learning differences, and I now work there with her as one of the occupational therapists. The school has grown very quickly, as the societal need for schools like this is huge. We are currently filled to capacity at 68 kids and hope to grow to 75 students next year. We work with kids who struggle with things like dyslexia, language processing, attention deficit disorder, auditory processing disorder, visual processing, sensory integration disorder, poor organization, and fine and gross motor delays. Children who struggle with these things have a really hard time functioning in typical schools. Many of them are missing foundational skills that would allow them to sit still, attend, and take in information in a regular classroom. Most regular classroom teachers, no matter how caring, do not understand what is blocking these students from success, do not know how to help them, and do not have the resources available to them that would make it possible for them to help. These students need small groups, quiet learning environments, and multi-sensory learning techniques. Our school provides these things very well. Students who have given in to failure in typical learning environments come to our school and experience success for the first time. They gain the skills and the confidence they need to succeed in middle school, high school, and sometimes college.
The thing is that the teaching techniques that these children need in order to succeed require quite a bit of space, whether that space be for breaking into small (quiet) academic groups, doing bilateral coordination and sensory activities with the whole class in order to get the two sides of their brains communicating with each other, moving to the “planets song” with the music therapist, or acting out a story with the drama teacher. We currently do not have enough space to do these things with 75 students (it’s awfully tight with 68). Hence this letter.
We have plans to build an extension on to our current building (architectural plans done, potential loans and grants pending). This addition would house four new classrooms, each with a small breakout room, as well as a large multi-purpose room. It would provide enough space for every classroom to be able to break up into the small groups that these students need as well as the space needed to fully utilize the specialists at the school. We feel this summer is our best chance to get this done because construction works are in need of work due to the economic difficulties our country is having. And I do realize the irony of asking you to contribute some of your money during these hard times, but if you can just contribute a little and maybe get some of your friends to contribute a little, it will add up.

Update on "Milton" Kittens
Let's see if we can find permanent homes - or BARNS - for these babies.

Good morning all!
It is Sunday and the kittens found a new foster mom. Thanks to Milton Police Officer Adrienne Symanowski and Cari Shuler of All Pets, Cari called her contact at the Humane Society and this morning they were given to Elizabeth Kennedy, who is the wife of one of our Milton firefighters. They have two beautiful daughters who cuddled them right away. What a small world!
I tried to e-mail all that has shown interest in them so if I left anyone out, please tell them the good news. Thanks so much for helping these babies.
We would love for them to be adopted after they have completed their bottle feeding stage. If anyone is interested, they may contact me or Fonda Messer, Deputy City Clerk, at City Hall.
Thanks again to each and every one of you that participated in saving their lives. You can’t help but love them!

Dog Needs A Home!
My next door neighbor, Jennifer Greenway is moving to California. She has been through so much in the last six months, losing her husband in February and her Mother this past month. For a number of reasons, she has decided she needs to find a new home for her dog. Cinder is a beautiful English Setter. Doug Greenway trained him to be his hunting dog but Cinder didn't like the sound of rifle fire so he became just a great family pet. He is very well trained and a loving companion. He loves to be outside and is used to an invisible fence. If any of you know of someone looking for a pet or if you might consider one for yourself, please let me know. Jennifer is leaving on Sunday so we need to find Cinder a home quickly. You may wonder why I'm not taking him. We already have a family dog and a cat and I just don't think we should add another dog to the mix. But, I would love to know that he is with another loving family.

Please Help Find Daisy
Daisy went missing today at approximately 2:30 pm (Wed, 8/27) after the Crabapple Lawn Service left our side gate open. She is a beautiful, sweet, loyal companion and loves children. She is a rescue dog that does not deserve anymore hardships. She was last seen in our neighborhood, Providence @ Atlanta National. The search area has been the immediate area, New Providence Road to Doris and Doris to Birmingham Highway. She has never previously run away or been lost. She can be a bit shy especially of men due to her previous abuse, but she is not aggressive. She is a spayed, female, very dark yellow (pretty honey color) with a pine green color (with rabies tag/license/and microchip tag) and she is approximately 6 years old. We searched until 10:30 pm this evening amongst tears with no luck.
We would be so grateful to anyone that could make our family whole again!
